Preventing a Pest Problem

1. Remove Sources of Food, Water, and Shelter.
This is as simple as cleaning up around the house and paying special attention to the kitchen and pantry areas. Easy access containers for grains, sugars, and boxed goods attract pests, especially if they are near the ground. Keeping these containers tightly sealed and off the floor can go a long way to preventing a critter infestation. Similarly, don't leave out glasses of water or leave the faucet outside running. Creatures of all sizes need water to thrive, so eliminating unnecessary water sources will prevent pests from moving in.

2. Clean up Clutter In and Around the Home.
Things scattered on the ground or floor can shelter insects and even mice! These pests won't go unnoticed if you keep your space open and clean. Additionally, paper waste on the floor is a great nest building tool for rodents and bugs. Throwing away old magazines and newspapers/cardboard is beneficial for more than just cleaning up the house.

3. Check for Air & Water Leaks
Leaky pipes can lead to water accumulation beneath the house or beside the walls, which are common hiding spots for pests. If there are air leaks in the walls or under the doors of your home, you can bet that small animals can find their way indoors. Seal up those cracks and wrap up your pipes to prevent pest feeding grounds from starting.
